“Guys- I just wanted to write you a note about my training expereinece with Alexander Gruezo over the past 8 months. I tore my ACL, MCL, and meniscus (along with cartilage damage) in my right knee in July of 2007 playing soccer in Rome. After my reconstructive knee surgery, I went to physical therapy to try to get back to full strength. Unfortunately, after one year of therapy, I was not seeing much progress. The graph (ACL replacement) in my knee had heeled fine, but my muscles around the knee were severely atrophied and therapy had little to no affect. In fact, my right leg was so weak that I was starting to develop problems in my left leg and lower back, both of which were overcompensating. My surgeon recommended I start swimming to assist with rehab. That’s also when I started training with Alex, who understood the knee rehabilitation process.
From day one, Alex has been the perfect trainer for me. He carefully tailored a program that strengthened the muscles in my right leg as well as got me in shape for my wedding in March 2009. The rehab process over these past 8 months has been difficult, but extremely rewarding. Not only am I squatting a fair amount, but I am now able to jump off my right leg and move laterally. The fact that I can do these exercises todays is a small miracle (in my eyes). When I started going to the gym last fall, I couldn’t even walk down the stairs properly. And yesterday, I was cleared to play soccer by my doctor. I am extremely grateful for all that Alex had done and I want to let you guys know that he is an amazing triner; he is intelligent, patien, and knows how/when to push his clients. I will continue to work with Alex to reach my next goal: to finish a triathlon. I would highly recommend Alex to anyone who needs help with rehab as well as someone who is just looking to get fit.”

“I started training with Alex in 2006. My goals when I started are the same as they are today- to stay in shape. Like so many in NYC, I have a high stressed job. First and foremost, this is Alex’s passion. Most trainers I have used in the past have other interests and so they really are not 100% committed. With Alex, he gives you 110% of his attention during the hour workout. In addition, my goals are his goals and you don’t find that with most trainers. “I have been training with Alex for about 1 1/2 years most often 3 times per week. My fitness goals are the same as when I started and will remain the same for life. I want to continue to stay active while building muscle and reducing fat. I don’t want to increase my overall size. I want to maintain, lose fat, and also remain heart healthy. I also exercise as a way to reduce stress.
Since training with Alex, I have become stronger and leaner. My muscle mass has grown while my fat level has gone down. I’m also enjoying exercise and doing my cardio which is big for me.
Alex has been very good at judging how tired my body is. He knows when to push me but he also is able to gauge when my body is tired and needs a rest or when it is time to switch to new exercises. He is very knowledgeable and I never feel like I am going to get injured. He watches my form carefully.
In these tough economic times, I look at my training as one of the life luxuries that is 100% worth the expense. I am a busy person and it is too easy for me to blow off going to the gym when I’m stressed and/or tired. Having appointments with Alex is a great incentive to get to the gym, to do the work. Usually, when we finish, I feel less stressed and less tired than when we started.”
